Watching a movie at Port O’Connor Library

Watching a movie at Port O’Connor Library

A new activity has been going on the last two months at the Port O Connor Library. Melissa Doggett has headed a group of volunteers from the Friends of the Port O Connor Library, who have provided a Saturday morning of movies, snacks and fun for the children of Port O’ Connor.

Each Movie Morning has seen over 20 children attending and several parents said a thank you for doing these movie events because otherwise their kids would not get to see them and it is great local fun.  What a fun activity for the Friends of the Port O Connor Library to sponsor!!                          -Anne Monnig

Booth at the Arts & Crafts Festival

Our booth at the Arts and Crafts Festival had lots of visitors and supporters on a day just made to order! The past months have brought lots of cold and rain to POC and everyone was thrilled to have a beautiful day dawn on Saturday, March 14 for the third annual Arts and Crafts Festival organized by the Port O’Connor Lions Club. It felt like spring had finally sprung!

“Friends” hosted a booth with lots of fun activity for kids and adults alike and we had T-shirts and coffee mugs for sale. Anne and Mike Monnig crafted an ingenious Wheel of Fortune- like spinning wheel where all visitors to our booth were invited to take a spin and win a prize. Prizes included sun visors, generously donated by Rose Stringo, in addition to pens, koozies, several kinds of yummy goodies, and lots and lots of books. Kids loved it which is apparent in accompanying photos!

Of course, we gave updates on where we are at in our goal to build a state-of-the-art library. Much enthusiasm and excitement was apparent throughout the POC community and many other folks visiting from out-of-town.

We heartily thank those that made donations and/or became “Friends” members during the event. AND look for us again at the Crawfish Festival coming up in May. We will be hosting a booth there also.

Remember to check us out on Facebook and our website: www.friendsoportoconnorlibrary.org for up and coming happenings to promote love of libraries and our new facility!
