I have owned my property in Port O’Connor since 1985. I bought it as a fishing camp, a place to get away from the public and fish until my heart was content—which it never was! I have made Port O’Connor home since 1989, even though I have worked in several cities during that time. I choose to continue to make Port O’Connor my home even though I could live just about any place I choose. I know very few people here—as my work and hobbies take me away for different lengths of time. But, I have a great deal of knowledge about people in general and that drives me to write this letter.

As soon as I bought my property I recall two specific incidents that relate to the purpose of this letter. First, a person that I got to know during my search for a place to buy used a phrase: “Down here in this land of fun and sun, you never flush for number one!” I quickly learned what he meant! The second incident came when I had a stopped up system and sought the assistance of a local plumber. He came to my place and searched for the septic tank. He found it right beside a concrete slab which I was told during the purchase process to be the outdated water well—out dated because now the house had “running water”. To solve my problem the plumber simply took the top off the septic tank, inserted a sump pump, and began to pump the septic tank empty—pumping it out onto the lawn of a neighbor—who thankfully was not at home. The plumber turned and said that should hold for a few months.

Fast forward to 2014! Today, I do not have to worry about my water coming from directly beneath my septic tank. I can flush any time I desire. That system has not failed me since its inception. Today, people who leave Port O’Connor after a weekend of fun, do not have to load up their trash and take it home with them as was the common practice when I first bought the place. Yes, I vividly recall truck beds loaded with plastic bags of trash leaving Port O’Connor every Sunday afternoon—much of which was blown out of the trucks and landed on Highway 185, sometimes before they got out of town.

I do not know one person who is serving on the board of directors who are implementing the public water/sewer system. Are they the most intelligent, well prepared individuals? They might be. They could be. I doubt it. Are they well intended? I bet they are! Are those who complain about their work well intended? I think they are. I do know that most every person wants to do well, wants to please, and even though the work they do or the project on which they work is less than satisfactory to everyone, they are, for the most part, well intended, decent individuals who have given their personal time to serve. That concept is true in just about every walk of life. When things do not go as one desires, often time civility is lost, blame is thrown about, yet, working together in a sensible, productive manner to resolve any issue is often overlooked.

I am like most everyone else—I do not like higher taxes, unplanned changes, unexpected utility issues, bad water, on and on. I also am like most everyone else, I do very little to resolve the differences. The water issue(s) like most any other contemporary issue facing us, can be resolved by working together in a civil manner. Generally speaking, problems cannot be resolved by casting blame, taking sides, inspection, or incivility. We should know this by looking at the model of the United States Congress.

As I write this I want to say that each time I turn on my faucet and get water, each time I push the commode handle down and it flushes, and on each designated day my trash is picked up, I am grateful. I also, want to say that I am happy to know that my neighbor will not have to pump his septic tank on my property. And finally, I want to express my appreciation to those who have served the public in different roles to enable the above to take place.

Impeach Obama?

There is much hoorah about impeaching Obama in the current news, mostly raised by Liberal/Progressives Democrats with their constant cat-calls of “Racist!” and their unending solicitation of campaign donations. The reality is much different.

Those of us that actually read the Constitution, follow the actions of Congress, and can do simple arithmetic know that though there is plenty of evidence to impeach Obama, that is only a type of “indictment”. He must be tried in the Senate, and found guilty by 2/3’s of the sitting Senators. In this horribly politicized and intentionally ignorant Democrat led Senate that would be impossible. Regardless of the charges, provable facts, evidence presented at trial, and the threat to our Constitution, economy, borders, and culture, the Democrat majority would not vote ‘Guilty’ on a Democrat icon and the ‘First Black President’. Their loyalty is to their Party, Agenda, their own careers, and their fear of the Liberal Media, not to their Oath of Office, the Constitution, or the American People. They would obstruct any meaningful investigation, withhold, destroy, or rule out evidence, or simply ignore the facts as they did in the Clinton Impeachment trial. They ruled for Clinton because they said it was “just about sex, and everyone lies about that!” NO! It was about lying, even to a Grand Jury, Suborning Perjury, Malfeasance of Office, a huge cover-up, and flagrant Abuse of Power soliciting sex from subordinate women. But he was a Democrat, so that’s OK.

Obama’s offenses are much worse, but the Marxist/Alinskyite wing of the Dems doesn’t care as long as they get what they want. “The end justifies the means.”, pure Leninism.

I believe there is a better direction. Eric Holder has lied to Congress repeatedly, and stonewalled many Congressional investigations. He should be impeached, many times over. The evidence against him is so overwhelming, his only possible ‘defense’ is “Obama told me to do it”, which is not a legal defense in American Law. A real investigation into Holder’s “high crimes and misdemeanors” will reveal many ‘co-conspirators’ including Obama, members of his administration, and even members of Congress, including many high placed Senators. Senators indicted as co-conspirators or held as material witnesses because of their knowledge of misfeasance, malfeasance, intentional non-enforcement or actual violation of Federal laws would be necessarily recused from sitting in judgement at any impeachment trial on these matters. The evidence at trial will be so compelling that even the staunchest Lib/Dem will be forced to vote guilty or face political ruin. Furthermore, the evidence gathered and presented in the Holder impeachment will demand the impeachment or resignation of not only Obama, but dozens of senior Democrats. The Lapdog Media will not be able to ignore the Holder impeachment, and probably will not be able to control the “spin”, but they will try. Perhaps many of the “Low Information Voters” will see that the Obama Agenda is not leading them to the Big Rock Candy Mountain. And some of the Democrats are embarrassed by, even fear, the flagrant lawlessness of the Holder Dept of Justice, and won’t much mind seeing him thrown under the bus. If Obama further breaks the law to protect Holder, he will only add to the evidence against himself.

Holder’s non-enforcement of border security has caused the current immigration crisis. It is something that was engineered by the Obamunists to use the Media to push the ‘Go-along, Get-along’ RINOs into supporting an Amnesty Bill. They want the Repubs signed on to it because they know that Amnesty will be a disaster for America, and they want the Repubs to share the blame. The Dems fooled the liberal Repubs into it during the Reagan Administration, and the 3 million amnestied then turned into over 20 million new immigrants in less than 20 years, not counting regular legal immigrants. The current claim of 11 million illegal immigrants is probably closer to 30 million, and every amnestied one can immediate petition to bring immediate family in. This Amnesty will result in over 100 million new un-assimilated, welfare dependent, low skill workers competing in a collapsing economy.

America is “A nation of immigrants”, but in all the years of European immigration only about 12 million came through Ellis Island. And that was to a growing economy with unfettered development, growing industry, and millions of acres of land available for development and farming. And what do we have now? Constant over-regulation, de-industrialization, Federal bureaucracies fighting any development, and almost half the citizens on some sort of “welfare’ or govt ‘entitlement’.

Another Liberal/Progressive Paradox: Libs so fear overpopulation that for most of a century they wanted Americans to practice birth-control, even anti-Christian abortion, and even supplied by the Federal Govt. (There is no Constitutional mandate for that, at all.) But now they want to risk a huge population explosion of uneducated low skilled foreign people, while still killing off our Middle Class babies, our real Natural Born Citizens. Illogical to the point of insanity, economic and cultural suicide. A nation that will not defend its borders will cease to exist.

On August 5, Mr. Brayshaw presented a letter to Congressman Blake Farenthold explaining his reasons against impeaching the President at this time and laying out reasons for and the strategy behind impeaching Attorney General Eric Holder. Anyone wishing to read this letter, which was accepted for consideration by Congressman Farenthold, may receive a copy by commenting under “The Way I See It” on our web site thedolphintalk.com . Mr. Brayshaw also welcomes your comments on any pertinent subject.

Cooking With G…by Janie Goldman

Greetings fellow culinary enthusiasts!  I started this column with the idea that everything I shared would be quick and easy.  Recently my cooking style has taken on a flare for making ordinary dishes with a Texas or Tex-Mex touch.  This creation is easy but not necessary quick, but I really wanted to share it…so here it is.

Texas Risotto

Melt two heaping tablespoons of butter flavored Crisco in large skillet over medium heat.  Add a half cup diced purple onion, a half cup diced red pepper and one and a half cups risotto and sauté until rice is slightly brown.  Add one half cup Lone Star beer.  Kick up the heat to medium high and stir until almost completely absorbed then add a mixture of one cup Goya Sofrito dissolved in four cups chicken broth one cup at a time.  Stir constantly and only add the next cup when liquid is almost completely absorbed.  On the last cup, add a half cup grated queso fresco and a couple tablespoons of freshly chopped cilantro.  Rice should be tender and smooth not clumpy and gooey.

Can be garnished with additional grated queso fresco and chopped cilantro.  This recipe was created as an attempt to seize a typical Italian dish and make it ours.  The dish is very rich and should serve about 6 people as a side dish with enchiladas or even brisket.  Approximate cooking time one hour.  Enjoy!
