Warriors Weekend 2017 is almost here. 800+ heroes and veterans will be driving, flying and bussing in for a special weekend of fishing, food, appreciation and fun. There is much to do to make their weekend safe and successful. Volunteers are the driving force behind the effort. It is a big event and can be a bit overwhelming, but even a little help can make a big difference. Have you wondered how you could help with Warriors Weekend? Here are a few places they need help.

• Golf Carts and buggies are needed to transport heroes and families to the dock and other events in town. If you can loan a cart for a volunteer driver to use, or want to drive yourself, please call
Jim Butler at 361-237-8053

• Boats are needed Friday Night to take heroes fishing who need to limit sun exposure. If you can take a couple of true American treasures out to catch a flounder of two, please call
Becky Haynes at 361-571-6131

Boats are needed Saturday morning to take heroes fishing. If you can offer your boat and fishing assistance, please go online at www.warriorsweekend.org and complete the boat captain sign up.

• Housing is needed for heroes and their families. Do you have a spare spot to sleep? Nothing fancy required. If you can offer a clean bed and quick shower, then please call
Bill Tigrett at 361-983-2671

• Desserts are needed for the meals shared by our visiting heroes. Cookies and cakes need to be at the POC Community Center by early afternoon Friday to be used both Friday and Saturday. If you can bake and take 1 or more desserts to serve our guests, please call or text
Kelly Gee at 817-929-2564

• The Sand Sculptures bring a special touch to Warriors Weekend. The sculptors who create this special art need meals provided so they can work. If you can donate money or meals to those busy artists, please call
Kim Sonnier at 361-655-4674

The website contains other information like volunteer sign ups, schedules and announcements. Find a place to connect to these heroes and you will find that you get much more than you could ever give.

Thanks so much.                            -Kelly Gee
