Seth Bubenik

Seth Bubenik

Seth, son of Michael and Dawn Bubenik of Seadrift, graduated from Calhoun High School as a Texas Scholar and member of the National Society of High School Scholars. Seth was a member of the National Honor Society and the Varsity Baseball Team (2 years).. Seth has been accepted to Texas A&M University in College Station and plans to pursue a degree in Petroleum Engineering.

Kayne Carriles

Kayne Carriles

Kayne, son of Kacie Skalak and Gilbert and Julie Carriles, graduated from Calhoun High School as a Texas Scholar. He plans to attend Victoria College in the fall to study to become a Process Operator.

McKenzie Stringo

McKenzie Stringo

McKenzie, daughter of Roxie Stringo and Marc and Brandy Stringo, graduated from Calhoun High School, winning many awards and scholarships. From her hometown of Port O’Connor, she received scholarships from the Port O’Connor Chamber of Commerce, Port O’Connor PTO-Naomi Albrecht, Port O’Connor Community Service Club, Christopher Ragusin P.O.C. Grand Slam, and Hoopers Bar and Grill/Tolbert Chili Group Scholarship. She also received a Scholarship from Collin Community College, Calhoun Sports Medicine, CHS Class of 1981 Memorial, and Port Lavaca Art Guild. She was also awarded an Advanced Art award in Fine Arts and an Economics award in Social Studies.

Gage Daniel

Gage Daniel, son of Mark and Anne Daniel of Seadrift, graduated from Calhoun High School as an Honor Student and a Texas Scholar.

He was a 3-year Varsity Football and Basketball player and MVP Defense Football Player – 2017. In July, Gage with start the Process Technology Classes with Formosa.

Caitlin Carter

Caitlin Carter

Caitlin, daughter of Chuck and Brenda Carter of Port O’Connor, graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Geology and a double minor in Environmental Geosciences and Geographic Information Science and Technology. She will be continuing her education at Texas A&M to pursue a Master of Science in Energy degree next fall.

Will Ragusin

Will Ragusin

CHS Class of 2017, Texas Scholar
Will plans to attend Victoria College in the fall to continue to pursue a career in the electrical field. His strong suit has always been math. He is a state licensed apprentice electrician and has worked for his dad Willie Ragusin (POC Electric, LLC) for 2 two years. His hobbies include making custom knives, drawing, hunting, fishing & playing basketball. Will is the son of Willie & Dawn Ragusin and grandson to Billy & Margaret Ragusin of Port O’Connor. Fun Fact: This class was the last and the smallest group to attend 6th grade at Port O’Connor Elementary School – From Mrs. Brenda Smith’s PreK Class to the graduating Class of 2017 Calhoun High School. Thank you teachers, family & friends for being a part of it all!

Ric Clifton

Ric is a Calhoun High School Graduate and the son of Mike and Beverly Clifton of Port O Connor. Ric is the 3rd son in a family of 4 boys and enjoys his family life immensely. Ric is a Christian and has dedicated his life to Jesus Christ under the pastoring of the late Rev David Ennis. Ric participated in Cub Scouts and received the coveted Arrow of Light Award. He enjoyed Boy Scouts and was a member of the Karankawa Lodge Order of the Arrow. Active and athletic, Ric has participated in many sports from YMCA soccer to Calhoun Little League, Calhoun Youth Football and CHS football. Ric enjoys the outdoors and is gregarious fisherman and hunter. Ric has committed to the United States Army. After service to his country he plans to enjoy the hunting and fishing life on a nice retirement ranch in Texas!

Calhoun High School graduate Halie Watkins, was among 18 graduates of Victoria College’s Law Enforcement Academy Basic Peace Officer Certification Class honored during a graduation ceremony on May 18 at the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts in Victoria.

Trevor, son of Richard and Stacie Williamson, of Seadrift, graduated from Calhoun High School. Earlier this year, he graduated from Sea Academy, earning his Captain’s license.

Tyler, son of Henry and Judy Anderson of Port O’Connor, graduated with honors from the University of Texas at Dallas on Friday, May 12, 2017. He earned a Master of Science in Finance from the Naveen Jindal School of Management.

Quentin Henderson

Quentin Henderson

Quentin Henderson, the Texas A&M University at Galveston student with the highest grade point average tolls the bell Saturday May 13, 2017 at the end of the commencement ceremony. Quentin received a Bachelor of Science degree in Offshore and Coastal Systems Engineering . He is the son of Alan and Sheree (Key) Henderson of Seadrift, Texas and a former 2012 graduate of Calhoun High School.

Sportsman Scholarship Winners

The Sportsman Scholarship is proud to announce the winners for 2017. There were many applicants for financial aid in the quest to afford college expenses in these competitive times.

The winners are: Taylor Carter, Hailey Whitaker, Meghan Wehmeyer, Seth Bubenik, Salvador Padilla, and Jackson Nunley.

Johnathan Pitonyak received a scholarship. He will return to Blinn College in Brenham, Texas the Fall semester to complete his prerequisites before transferring to Texas A&M to finish his Business of AG degree. Johnathan is a hard worker, maintaining a job while studying and even completing online classes this summer. Congratulations Johnathan! You make us hometown proud!

McKenzie ‘Kenzie’ Stringo

McKenzie ‘Kenzie’ Stringo received a scholarship upon graduation from Calhoun High. She will be attending Collin Community College in Plano, TX for 2 years before transferring to University of North Texas in Denton. She will pursue a degree in Animation and Illustration. Kenzie dreams of working for Disney, Pixar or Cartoon Network someday. If you have not seen her art, you are missing out. Her work is beautiful and her style is delightful. Check out her work on Facebook. She grew up right here and POC and we can’t wait to say we knew her when at the opening of her first big show!
