On Tuesday, December 12, 2011, our new Pastor and his wife moved into the Church Parsonage at 407 Jefferson. Donnie and Shirley Martin are now residents of Port O’Connor. The move from Leland, Mississippi was long and very tiresome, but rewarding for Port O’Connor First Baptist Church and the Martins! Everyone should welcome the Martins to Port O’Connor and the Church.

This past Sunday was a great day at the Church. The morning service was packed with members and many visitors. Brother Raymond Grant had many children to listen to his Children’s Sermon. Brother Grant led the congregation in singing several Christmas songs. Brother George Yarbrough preached an inspirational message.

Last Sunday evening the Church enjoyed a great Christmas Party and devotion by Brother George. There was a group of thirteen members and friends who celebrated their birthdays in October, November and December. After singing “Happy Birthday” to the group, everyone enjoyed a feast of food, salads, and desserts. All of the favorite foods and dishes were royally received and enjoyed.

The Church honored Brother George Yarbrough and his wife Barbara by presenting them with a gift of appreciation for Brother George serving the Church as Interim Preacher for the past six months. The Yarbroughs received a standing ovation of THANKS!

Brother Raymond Grant was given a special gift for his outstanding service in leading the Choir so professionally this past year.

After the presentations, everyone enjoyed a “white elephant” Christmas gift exchange. Fifty members and their guests enjoyed selecting unknown “gifts” and then trying to hold on to the gift or trying to entice someone to take the gift so they could select another. A lot of laughs and a lot of fun and excitement was had before the gift exchange was over. There were a lot of funny and exciting gifts!

Don’t forget to remember JESUS this year in your gift giving. A perfect way to remember Jesus is through a donation to the “Lottie Moon” Christmas Offering for Foreign Missions. Our foreign missionaries around the world depend on these contributions to witness and minister to people of every nation. The world-wide goal this year is $175 million and our Church goal is $2,000. Thanks for your contributions.

See you in church Sunday!
