Dear Dolphin Talk,

Christmas is here again. I just had a birthday on Nov. 29; I have lived to see 95 Christmases. I went to visit my family at the cemetery. That is where nearly all of my family is. I grew up with 6 brothers. Only my baby brother and me are left. I was surprised to see a new headstone there. It was the stone of “Sugarfoot”, one of my brothers.

When we were young, we went to the store and bought penny bubble gum to chew. The sweet wore out and Mama kept a crock of sugar on a shelf in a cabinet on the wall. Sugarfoot climbed up to get some sugar to roll his gum in and our Dad said, “Sugarfoot, get down from there before you fall.”

He said, “I ain’t no g______ sugarfoot.” Where did he hear that word?

I remember this just like it was yesterday and it was many years ago.

P.S. “Sugarfoot” was on his stone.
