County Employees Wellness Program

Calhoun County employees recently completed a six-week Challenge called “Maintain No Gain” as part of their Wellness Program. They were challenged to gain no more than two pounds during the six week period from Thanksgiving to New Years.

For maintaining and reaching that goal each week, employees were entered into a drawing weekly for a prize among county employees. At the conclusion of the six weeks, all qualifying entries were sent to the Texas Association of Counties for inclusion in a statewide drawing.

Grace Gonzales of Calhoun County won an iPod Nano from TAC for her participation in the Challenge.
We have recently started a “Lunch and Learn” program with Tina Trevino of the Extension Office. We had over 20 employees come to lunch and listen to a talk on nutritional information. This will be a monthly program, each with a different meal and subject.

These are some of the Programs sponsored by the Wellness Program in an effort to help our employees get and stay healthier. We have a good participation rate in our programs, and I’m proud of the enthusiasm of the employees.
