Life, Love, Pain, Hate, Death by Dallas Fowler

The same questions many young adults today ask: “Who cares?” or “Who could love me?” and “Why put me through all of this pain?” or “Why couldn’t it have been my life they took?” Well, I’m here to tell you this: never doubt what has been given and taken from you. It was done for a reason for always better, never for worse!

You may feel as if you’re the only one who knows what you’re going through, and to an extent that may be true, but just remember this tonight as you lay your heard down to sleep: Everyone dies, but not everyone is born. You should take advantage of what you have while you’ve got it because it’s not always going to last forever!

Every beginning has an end, and every end has a new beginning where new opportunities are offered. Not all are good, but if you take them, just keep in mind why you chose that opportunity and what it was exactly you were looking for in that moment.

Some say how they hate making the wrong choice in life. Well, I wouldn’t exactly say hate; at the moment you may feel as if you hate the choice, but as time goes on, you truly realize that you didn’t like the consequences that came with that choice, not the choice itself. So, before you begin to wish your life would end or that you can go back and change things, just remember that it happened for a reason. What that reason may be, that’s up to the choice you made, but it’s all up to you how you take the consequences to your actions and how you learn from it or keep going and making the same mistakes over and over again!

Just remember you have the ability to control your own actions, whether you do that or not is on you! So choose responsibly.

Calhoun County Humane Society again received a grant from the Louise S. and W. H. Bauer Charitable Endowment Trust in the amount of $4,000 to provide free spaying and neutering of pets belonging to low income county residents. This will be limited to two animals per household, per year. The guidelines are as follows:

[1] Only qualified low income pet owners with proof of public assistance (e.g., Lone Star card, Medicaid, etc.) will be approved. [2] Proof of current rabies vaccination is required prior to surgery. If not available, a rabies vaccination must be given to the animal a minimum of 2 weeks prior to surgery. Charges for the vaccination will be paid by the owner of the animal. [3] Surgeries may only be performed at one of the three local veterinary clinics in Port Lavaca and must be scheduled in advance by the owner contacting the veterinarian’s office. Each veterinarian reserves the right to refuse surgery for any reason. [4] A Texas driver’s license of the qualified person is required. [5] The person seeking qualification for this program must come in to apply; friends, relatives, other individuals may accompany them but may not act in their place.

This program, which began in January, is run on a “first come, first serve” basis and will continue until all funds are expended. Calhoun County Humane Society volunteers will handle applications with office hours being Monday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Office phone number is 552-8916.

Port O’Connor School Principal Lydia Strakos reports (on Feb. 4) that a CCISD maintenance crew has been working on repairs to the school auditorium and the damage from the January 29 fire should be completed soon, although the stage curtains will probably have to be replaced.

The fire was discovered about 5:30 p.m. Fire extinguishers were used and 911 was called. Firefighters responded quickly and had the fire under control in about twenty minutes. No one was injured.

Principal Strakos gives special thanks to Debbie and Whitney Ronshousin, Jeff Barts, and the Port O’Connor Fire Department. “If it had not been for these people, the school would have had much more damage,” she said.

Classes resumed as normal on February 1, except for closing off the auditorium.
