Calhoun County Girl Scouts, Troop 9510, participated in the Calhoun County Fair Parade on October 13th.

Juliette “Daisy” Gordon Low assembled 18 girls from Savannah, Georgia, on March 12, 1912, for a local Girl Scout meeting. Within a few years, Daisy’s dream for a girl-centered organization was realized. Today, 100 years later, Girl Scouts of the USA has a membership of over 3.2 million girls and adults.

Port O’Connor Cemetery was given a distinguished honor of being a historical cemetery. Along with every title come duties. The township of Port O’Connor is looking for volunteers to serve on the board or become members of a new organization: Port O’Connor Cemetery Association.

We are looking for young and old to work together to keep our cemetery running smoothly. If all you are able to give is your wisdom, you will not be turned down. Muscle, we can use that also. This would be a great project for any youth in the community that is part of an organization that requires community service.

All we are asking is for your time and your input. If interested we will meet, October 28th, 6:30 p.m., in the community room at the POC Community Center.

Baxter

Meet Baxter the beagle. He’s the traditional tricolor of black, brown and white with a long white tip on his tail. He’s about 2 years old, very sleek, has a great personality and loves other dogs and everyone he’s ever met. He’s also just the right size to be an ideal indoor companion. When outside, Baxter will need a fenced yard to keep him from following that famous beagle nose to foreign territories.

Jackie

Meet our Jack Russell terrier whose name is, of course, Jackie. She is about 14 months old and weighs less than 10 pounds. But there is more energy per ounce packed in that small body which is, of course de rigueur, for Jack Russells. She is the perfect companion for an active family who will play with her a lot and keep her active mind busy.

Animal Shelter, 201 Stringham Drive (across from the rodeo arena), Monday through Saturday, 10 to 2, or call the Calhoun County Humane Society, 553-8916. You can also view her and other animals ready for adoption on line at www.calhouncountyhumanesociety.org Thanks and we’ll be waiting for you!
