BUNCO BUNCO BUNCO By Sue Kubecka

The March 3rd meeting of the Bunco Group really amazed themselves with the quality of their playing and winning too! It seems that Peggy Elliott was not only the recipient of a prize for winning the Most Games, but she also got the Floating Bunco award. And Carol Haverfield amazed everyone by winning the most Buncos; not only did she get a prize at the end of the evening, but during the time of play, she was gifted with the Bunco award of two bunnies on a necklace to wear.

Sadly, June Westling won the least games, but she still won a prize, and Annette Leach was somehow the winner of the Booby prize.
Mary Ann Claiborne, Shirley Gordon and Diane Cooley were the hostesses that evening, and their attention to delicious items for snacking is hard to beat.

However, the hostesses for May 1st, the next Bunco Party, will be Joyce Jordan and Sue Kubecka, and when those two get together, well, be prepared to be astonished. Call Shirley Gordon at the Library for further information. See you there on Tuesday Evening, May 1st at 7:00 pm!

Port O’Connor Easter Sunrise Service -Photo by Doyle Adams

The weather was almost perfect for Resurrection Sunday in Port O’Connor. There were over 450 people who gathered at the Front Beach to praise the Risen Savior. Reverend Donnie Martin, the new First Baptist pastor, was introduced. Raymond Grant led the congregation in singing “He Lives” and “Because He Lives”. The Baptist Choir sang a very difficult song excellently. The message was titled “Easter’s Promise” and because of a weak voice, I had to use the microphone! The Chapel had the coffee hot and Cathy’s cinnamon rolls were over the top (as usual)! The sun came up as if on cue and the Port O’Connor Easter Sunrise Service was truly a memorable event. One participant said that if this event keeps growing, we will need the services of the Sheriff’s Office to help direct traffic! What a great way to begin Spring in our community! I only wish that we could find other times and occasions to join together to praise the Lord!

Next Sunday, the Chapel will host Missionary Ernie Peacock, who will be going to Spain to help build churches. The Reverend Peacock is a veteran missionary, serving many years in Mexico. He and his wife Sandra will be here for only one service and the Chapel will be receiving a special offering for their ministry.

The Sea Academy is conducting another class at the Chapel, which will conclude on April 20. Captain Robert is the instructor and has an excellent record in successful student completions. Those interested in further information are welcomed to come by the Chapel, or call Captain Robert at 361/816-3010 or the Sea Academy at 361/758-6184. The next class at the Chapel is scheduled for June 22-29.

We are facing a full calendar of events here at the Chapel. We are already planning for our Mother’s Day celebration, which we believe will be one of the best yet. Wounded Warriors Weekend is quickly approaching and we are already gathering our supplies. Last year, we made 700 breakfast tacos and we understand that we will be needing even more this year. We will be looking to the community to help us as usual. Father’s Day will be special as we honor our dads in an appropriate way!

The Chapel is a growing, interdenominational congregation whose goal is to see people of this community helped along on our journey to Heaven. We sincerely believe that Jesus has promised us abundant life – life to its fullest – and then Heaven after we leave planet earth. We are working to see that become a reality for everyone in this area! You will always find a warm welcome here at the Chapel and are urged to, “Come, grow with us!”

What’s Happening At First Baptist Church? by Doyle Adams

What an exciting Easter Week! Approximately 350 to 400 people gathered at the Church Fellowship Hall last Saturday afternoon for the Annual Children’s Easter Egg Hunt. There were probably 150 children and the rest were parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. Over 800 eggs were hidden and all but eight eggs were found. Everyone had a great time and even the toddlers found eggs. Candice Stryker handled the affair with professionalism. All the guests were served refreshments and the 2012 Egg Hunt is now history. Thanks go out to Candice Stryker and all of her “youth helpers” and the church members and friends who donated candy to fill the plastic eggs and cookies for refreshments.

The Port O’Connor Easter Sunrise Service set a record attendance again! 400 to 500 people gathered on the beach front at King Fisher Pavilion at 7:00 a.m. for the annual Easter service. The weather was perfect – low wind and no mosquitoes, partly cloudy skies, a full moon, and a beautiful sunrise! Raymond Grant led the group in singing two Easter hymns and the First Baptist Choir sang a beautiful special. Brother Donnie Martin read the Bible Scripture and Fisherman’s Chapel Pastor, Bro. Erny McDonough, delivered a super Easter message. Everyone enjoyed the hot coffee, orange juice and the hot homemade rolls contributed by Cathy’s Restaurant.

The Easter Sunday morning service at the Church was crowded with members, guests, and friends. It was definitely a full church! Bro. Raymond Grant preached an outstanding Children’s Sermon and the Choir sang “Then Will the Very Rocks Cry Out”. Bro. Donnie Martin preached an inspirational Easter message. I was very happy to have my son Jerry and his wife Sandy in the service, along with my granddaughter Michelle and husband Jeff Ellis and my 11-month-old grandson, Jaxson. What a blessing for me this Easter!

Many of our church members are busy planning and cooking for the upcoming Warriors Weekend on May 18-19.

Vacation Bible School will be June 11-14 and the theme is “Amazing Wonders Aviation”. The VBS will be held each day from 9:00 a.m. until noon. The church van will be picking up the children each day.

Children’s Camp (3rd through 6th grade) will be Monday, June 18 through Thursday, June 21. Be sure and register for this great and exciting camp.

Youth Camp will be Monday, June 25 through Friday, June 29 at Camp Zephyr in Sandia, Texas.

See you in church Sunday!
