Spring Bird Migration has begun and bird watchers from all the U.S. and the world will be on the Texas coast to experience it.

Migration is basically between March 15 and May 15.

Brush Freeman, with the help of Port O’Connor’s Petra Hockey, has compiled a complete list of all birds recorded in Calhoun County and its waters.

The list contains more than 400 species – too long to print in this paper.

Should you have trouble connecting to this site, email the Dolphin at dolphin1@tisd.net and we will forward the list to you.

What’s Happening At First Baptist Church? by Doyle Adams

This past Friday, March 16, 2012, we lost one of our oldest and dearest friends of the Church, Florence Shirk. Florence was 100 years old and one month shy of being 101. Florence is the mother of Church member Pat Ekstrom. Funeral services will be conducted in Grand Junction, Colorado this weekend. We will miss Florence in church and at the Senior Adult Luncheon at the Community Center each Tuesday. I am sure Florence was welcomed to Heaven by her friends and relatives.

Children’s Summer Camp is fast approaching. The children will depart Port O’Connor on Monday, June 18, and return on Thursday, June 21. The camp will be at Palacios Baptist Encampment. This camp is for children in the third through sixth grades. If you are interested in going to camp, please pick up a camp form from Brother Raymond Grant as soon as possible. We also need a woman sponsor to go with the children. If you are interested, please see Brother Raymond.

Easter is only a couple of weeks away. The Port O’Connor Annual Easter Sunrise Service will be on the front beach at the covered pavilion. The service will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 8. Brother Erny McDonough, Pastor of Fisherman’s Chapel, will be preaching the Easter message. Brother Donnie Martin will be reading the Scripture. The congregation will be led in singing Easter hymns and the choir from First Baptist Church will sing special music. We usually have between 200 and 300 people gather on the front beach for this favorite inspirational Easter service. Please bring a chair and a jacket, as we never know what the weather will be like. Invite your guests, neighbors and friends and enjoy this great service.

The annual Easter Egg Hunt will be Saturday, April 7, at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall at 2:00 p.m. Eggs will be hidden in special areas for certain age children. Several special eggs will be hidden that have special prizes. Refreshments will be served to everyone and the children are guaranteed to have a lot of fun.

Everyone is invited to attend the special Easter Sunday Services at the church: morning Sunday School or Bible Study at 9:45 a.m. and Worship Services at 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

See you in church Sunday!
