Summer is flying by and if you don’t stay tuned you’ll miss the fun in POC. Fireworks and beach time, fishing and family time, good food, great friends, fishing tournaments big and small… our little community has a lot to offer. The Service Club ladies are busy just like the rest of us, but they are still finding time to sort and organize the donations at the County barn in preparation for our October Garage Sale and to serve whenever asked here in our community. The Fall Garage Sale is key in our funding of local scholarships. Make plans to be at the pavilion early that first Saturday in October so you can find some hidden treasures too. If you have items to donate, we can use clothing, household goods and décor in good condition. If you need information on making donations, please call Donna Vuichard at 361-237-0476. As always, we are grateful for your support of our fund raising efforts.

The previously weather-interrupted All American Family Fun Day has been rescheduled for September 15th from 10-2 at Kingfisher Beach and pavilion. This special ‘bring your own lunch’ day will have games and fun, prizes and ice cream provided by the ladies of the Service Club. It’s a whole family affair with something for every age, so make plans to join us for this fun event.

We are still meeting on our Summer schedule of only one meeting the first Thursday of the month. Come visit in August before school begins and your schedule gets crowded. We would love to meet you and share with you some of the plans for the coming year. Service Club loves new members and welcomes women of all ages to be a part. $5 annual dues and an interest in joining is all it takes to make you official and we promise you will have fun.

So, until next time, be safe, live simply, love openly, forgive generously and remember this quote from successful attorney and revolutionary community volunteer in southern Mississippi Mr. Collier Graham who said, “the influence of a beautiful, helpful character is contagious and may revolutionize a whole town.” Come meet the beautiful characters of the POC Service Club and help them with their hometown revolution.

I warned you this would happen.

Over the years, I have tried to make people aware of the great legacy the San Antonio Spurs had in the National Basketball Association, especially during the period between the 1997-1998 season which added future hall of fame power forward Tim Duncan as well as top NBA coach Greg Popovich taking the reigns of the team as far as X’s and O’s.
That era would culminate in five NBA championships and six NBA Finals appearances, making them one of the best teams in the modern era of basketball. Add to that the great players that played on those teams such as Duncan, David Robinson, Sean Elliot, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and Avery Johnson.

While the Spurs still can lay claim to Popovich and his winning culture and ‘blue collar’ hard work attitude, as I have warned over the years the era was coming to an end over the last few years and sadly even now, in the Summer, way before the season starts, I can tell you the Spurs will certainly never be the same again.

If I had to mark a date or event that lead the Spurs to this spot, it would of course be the semi-recent retirement of Tim Duncan, one of the best to ever play the game at his position and a San Antonio Spur for the entire span of his eighteen year career.

However, last year a controversy between the Spurs and a great basketball talent in his own right, Kawhi Leonard, over his shoulder injury early last season. Leonard got a second opinion after the Spurs’ medical team had cleared him to play and Leonard stayed off the court until after the Playoffs had started. There was a rift growing between Leonard and the team, highlighted by Leonard still refusing to play after a ‘team only’ meeting in March as well as a small issue between Leonard and Tony Parker, who left the Spurs last month for the Charlotte Hornets.

Leonard was the MVP for the Spurs last championship in the 2013-2014 season and was a two time defensive player of the year as well. Leonard was only twenty-seven years old and in his prime, something I pointed out as a bright spot in the Spurs future as their older championship era team retired or became less effective one by one, a light that has now dimmed as it seems more and more likely that even if Leonard takes the qualifying offer and plays (or sits out) one more year for San Antonio, his is most certainly not in a Spurs uniform come opening night of the 2019-2020 season.

The scenario above also dismisses a trade either before the season or before the All Star break in February. Currently the Spurs are asking for the entire farm and the cows for Leonard, but that mentality could change as time goes on, rather than risk losing him with no return next Summer.

I guess this month’s column is one of shock and sadness more than ‘I told you so,’ because the Spurs are my second favorite NBA team and I love their culture and how they are consistently ready to play for a title. Now they are more likely to be playing for lotto balls in the NBA draft lottery, which means the era is no longer coming to a close, it has already ended.

It is exciting to be a part of Port O’Connor and serve the Lord at the Chapel! We have had the opportunity of hosting several groups recently and have others scheduled to come and be a part of this community, even if just for a few days! They are eating in our restaurants, purchasing our gasoline, buying fishing supplies and bait locally, and using our utilities. They come to give, not just to take!

We were honored to host the Reverends Everett and Debbie from the Texas Panhandle and Pastors Baldo and Lulu and their family from Roma. What a special blessing they were! The Reverend Everett shared in the morning service on July 8th. Can you imagine what they had to say about our Fireworks here in POC! (Great job, Donnie and helpers!) We had almost twenty guys from Sam Houston University for a time of retreating and spiritual renewal – all of our college students are not part of the “crazies”! It was great to have them in our morning services and have one of their leaders, Reverend Jason, share the Word with us.
As I write this, we are gearing up for the mission’s project we have been involved in for 23 years – Poco Bueno. We are expecting to glean about 10,000 meals from the Poco Bueno, Lone Star Shoot-out, and Shark Tooth tournaments this year!

We had a special baptismal service at the front beach, where we baptized those who have made a profession of their faith in Jesus Christ. On August 5, we will be having a Baby Dedication for those who wish to dedicate themselves to raise their children in the Lord. It is a very special service and all are invited to participate or just come and witness this memorable event.
All ladies are invited to be a part of a Ladies Retreat here on July 27 & 28. The Friday activities will start about 5:00 p.m. and Saturday will begin with morning coffee and breakfast, with festivities ending about noon. This will be a great time of fellowship and spiritual renewal.

On August 12, in the morning service, we will be greeting the ladies from the Rehabilitation Center, Saving Grace. They will be here to share their testimonies of how the Lord is helping to salvage their lives from the grip of addictions. It will be a special time and all are welcomed.

Get reading for the Captain’s School coming back to Port O’Connor. Captain Robert will again teach the Sea Academy classes here at the Chapel beginning on August 17. All interested persons should contact the School at 361/758/6184 as soon as possible to have a place ready for them. We have been honored to host these classes since 2000 and have had many Captains complete these classes a provide a service to the people of this area. You are welcome!

Fisherman’s Chapel is an interdenominational congregation that strives to provide services to this community that will assist all of us in getting ready to truly live life and be prepared to face God. You will always find a warm welcome here and are urged to, “Come, grow with us!”

Unity & Prosperity or Divisiveness, Chaos & Failure

President Trump has proven the negativity of the previous Administration was false and wrong. 1.5 % growth is not “normal” or acceptable, and where Obama said “America will never see 3% annual growth again.”, he was obviously assuming Hillary would win in 2016. Trump blew through the 3% in a year and estimates for the current quarter are closing in on 5%! Some “Never-Trumpers” like Lindsey Graham have seen the light, moved to being supporters. The Democrat Socialists are infuriated by any success and Bill Maher is hoping for a recession. So he would rather see poverty, people thrown out of work, lose their homes, and be bankrupt rather than Trump succeed. Typical Libtard. And the “Secret” to most of Trump’s Economic Plans has been to stop doing all the bad things Obama and his Dem-Socs did, and overturning Unconstitutionally enacted “Regulations”! But to the hard-core Dem-Socs that is all “Hate, Racism, and Fascism”; obviously they don’t know the meaning of those over-used words anymore. Trumpism obviously beats Obamunism.

The Lib/Prog Propaganda Machine is still at Full Howl. Recent press release by the ‘Woman’s March’ about Trump’s Supreme Court pick began: “Womens March Statement on Trump’s Extremist SCOTUS Nominee: Washington D.C., In response to Trump’s nomination of X__X to the Supreme Court of the United States, The Women’s March released the following statement ….” They forgot to fill in the blank because the Nominee hadn’t been announced! They can’t wait to actually see WHO it is to get enraged, just that Trump made the nomination. Elections have consequences, Obama nominated, and his Dem-Soc “rubber-stamp” Senate confirmed two of the most unqualified, politically motivated, women that flagrantly lied in their confirmation hearings. Both are “Activist Judges”, try to “make law” rather than “interpret the Constitution”, could and should be impeached and removed based on video evidence of their own speeches and testimony. But they won’t be, because they are Democrats. The Dem-Soc “Resistance”, obstruction, and divisiveness has become ‘knee-jerk’, mindless, and never ending.

Judge Brett Kavanaugh is an excellent choice because he is non-political and non-activist. The Radical Left best shut up about “Theocracy & Abortion Rights” because I don’t think he will go out of his way, to pick that or any other political fight, just leave “established law” alone, unless there is good reason to question it. Personally, I’m a “moderate Pro-Choicer”, but I’d love to see the Abortion Lobby lawyers try to defend “Roe vs Wade”. It is wrong because there is no Constitutional Mandate to give that issue to the Federal Govt. It clearly belongs to “the States and the People” under the Tenth Amendment! And how can they justify taxing moral people that consider Abortion Murder to give abortions to women that are too cheap, lazy, or ignorant to use regular birth control, giving abortions to under-age girls without Parental Permission, partial birth abortions, or teaching all the immoral & destructive crap Planned Parenthood pushes? All under the guise of the “General Welfare Clause” of the preamble? Kill 60 million American babies and replace them with Illegal Aliens? It has been more “General Destruction”, and a National Embarrassment! But, reversing “Roe”, outlawing abortion at the Federal level, would be just as bad, it is still usurpation of powers that Constitutionally belong to the States. Let them deal with it as their citizen-voters see fit. That is democratic and Constitutional. For a change. If you don’t like abortions or guns, don’t buy one.

Trump’s accomplishments have caused most of the GOP Establishment, even RINOs, to change their minds or simply quit; which is a victory for the American People and Constitutional Govt. And an even greater victory is in the making, the #WalkAway Movement! Millenials, minorities, and traditional Liberals are abandoning the “Always Leftward shifting” Dem-Soc Party in droves. Their reasons may be surprising, even shocking to them, but obvious to Conservatives, especially those of us trying to wrest the GOP from the RINOs and The Swamp of Sodom-on-the-Potomac. “The Media is completely dishonest”, “They Dems don’t do anything they promise their voters”, “They don’t do anything for me, my family, or my community”, and “Why do they seem so anti-American, anti-Christian, anti-family?”, seem to be the leading complains of the “WalkAways”. ‘Revolutionary statements’ for recovering Democrats, but perfectly understandable to those of us who have been fighting Internationalists, Big Govt Fraudsters, and RINOs for decades!

The “WalkAways” are the key to increasing growth and prosperity by aiding Trump, and the added benefit to America if by handing a massive defeat to the Lib/Prog false leadership of the “Dem-Soc Party”, they can start restoring a “Democrat Party”, or simply start another party. We need a Loyal Opposition Party, but loyal to America and our Constitution, not this half Marxist, half Anarchist, Abortion is Everything, conglomeration that is the Dem-Socs! The DNC says Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the future of the Dem-Soc Party? Then it needs to die, and quickly. Disbanding ICE? and basically all law enforcement. Open Borders? becoming the Welfare asylum for the world. And like Boston, let illegal aliens (Criminal Invaders) vote? Free this, free that? Who pays for it and how? More votes for radical Leftist Democrats that will drive out and replace the less radical Leftists and next election get even more insanely radical Leftists. Irresponsible voters elect irresponsible Representatives, that give us more irresponsible voters that will elect insanely irresponsible Representatives and “leaders”. The Dem-Soc Party has spun-out and entered a death spiral.

We need to take care of our own poor first. And try to economically assimilate the people already here legally. Hopefully they will assimilate totally into Americans first and forget all the past ethnic and racial strife. We must stop the political fighting that places some “victimhood” over citizens, the Constitution, and Rule of Law. When people like Schumer, Mad Maxine, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are rewarded with Media coverage and praise for spouting anti-Constitutional nonsense and lies for the benefit of THEIR Political Agenda, with no thought or care for the consequences; the security, unity, and even the survival of the Republic is at risk. We all better get behind Judge Kavanaugh, it could have been a lot worse. He might not be everything you want, but he is a Constitutionalist without an agenda.

R.V. Tips from T&A

We hope everyone is enjoying their RV summer on the coast!  It is warm! It is humid! It is great costal living! Along with the summer time comes some RV chores that may not be listed on your “Fave Things To Do List”. Let’s just get to the worst first! The Black Waste Tank!!  Black tank care, done correctly, really is not such a bad chore. Starting with a clean tank, close the dump valve, go inside and fill the commode bowl with water and dump into the tank.  Do this again! This puts about 2 gallons of water in the tank. Fill it halfway,  and add your digester, flush this into your tank!  All done until time to empty black tank again.
Not using a digester?  PLEASE do, the digester is essential to the operation of your black tank. We have found a good liquid digester is Pure Power Blue. It has been the #1choice of the RV industry for many years. It is a highly effective, environmentally safe product, low in cost. It ONLY takes 2oz to treat a 40 gallon tank!

Important things to remember about that black tank! It is a holding tank not a septic tank! Your RV black tanks are meant to hold waste for a short period of time, using a digester to break down organic matter quickly in order for it to flush out of the tank as a liquid.  Do not put any household garbage,  sanitary products, chemicals, or other matter down the commode! Use only RV tissue! RV tissue is made to start breaking down immediately once it is saturated by water. (Other tissue breaks down more slowly, most over a period of 30 days or more.)

The drain valve must remain closed unless you are dumping and cleaning the tank.  The tank needs water and digester in order to break down the solids.  A closed valve also helps to protect you from sewer gases. An open valve always ends in a clogged tank! And usually a clogged sewer hose as well!

Check the sewer hose for holes or damage every time you dump your black tank. Replace as needed. Sewer hose should have a “slump” just before it is hooked onto the in ground sewer pipe. This aids in reducing sewer gas infiltration in your RV.  If you are planning to be in one place for a while, you may want to consider hard piping, instead of flexible sewer hose. Enjoy your RV time!!!
