The 2017-2018 school year is about to come to an end. Graduation Day in Calhoun County is set for May 25. As is our custom, Dolphin Talk would be pleased to recognize all Seniors who will be achieving this important milestone.

Please send us your Senior photo, name, address, and parents’ names to be included in the Graduation issue. We would also like to know of your club/athletic participation and accomplishments while in school, plus any plans you have for your future.

Please email us at dolphin1@tisd.net with your photo and information. If you bring your photo to our office or mail it to us, we will copy it and return it to you. We plan to publish your photos and information in our June issue. Deadline for submissions is June 6th.

We would also like to acknowledge college or trade school graduates. Please let us hear from you. Thank you.

Alby’s Seafood now open for business in Seadrift

Anthony Godinich took over the lease for the building located at the Seadrift Harbor. Anthony is the son of the founders of Alby’s Seafood in Fulton, Texas.

The building suffered major damage from Hurricane Harvey. The first time Anthony saw the building he saw the possibility of a successful business. He got his contact numbers and got started with the renovation. He also got help from the City of Seadrift as well as his own employees. After getting certified to buy oysters, his business began to take off. This all happened around Thanksgiving.

Anthony’s parents, Alby and June Godinich, opened the first Alby’s Seafood in 1983. Anthony joined them in 1989. Alby Godinich retired ten years ago, but still enjoys being at the business.

Alby’s Seafood is a wonderful asset to the City of Seadrift. Drive down when you can to the Seadrift Harbor and see for yourself this new addition of business to our area.

Port O Connor Service Club Chronicles by Kelly Gee

Summer is coming fast to Port O’Connor bringing out of towners, part timers, fishing, activities and fun. The Crawfish Festival was a huge success, and Service Cub Members had fun selling tickets. Don’t you just love how different groups work together and help each other out in our community? I do!

We also presented the 2018 Service Club Scholarships to Mr. Justin Munsch and Ms. Jaylin Ramirez. Both hometown grads are heading to Victoria College and we can’t wait to see what amazing things they do next. Our local scholarships are made possible through our fundraising efforts like our twice-yearly garage sales and bake sales. When you shop with us, you help the students in our community. Thanks for being a part of their success.

POC Community Service Club recently donated the large inflatable movie screen and projector to the POC Library. We look forward to sharing new releases and well-loved classics in their new space.

Our next garage sale is already scheduled for the first Saturday in October and we are taking donations of quality used clothing and household goods for that sale. If you need information on making donations, please call Donna Vuichard at 361-237-0476.

We were honored to be able to donate funds for the Warriors Weekend Sand Sculpture Artists to eat lunch with our local seniors each Tuesday. Most of our members and their families are helping with Warriors Weekend 2018 as volunteers bake hundreds of desserts, make a couple thousand breakfast tacos, house, feed and play hostess to our hero guests, guide fishing boats, serve meals, offer transportation, and do countless other jobs and duties that help make this special weekend special.

Maybe you would like to be part of this wonderful group of women. We love guests and new members. Be aware we only meet one time per month during summertime to allow scheduling of vacations and family time. Join us the 1st Thursday of each month at 10:00 AM in the POC Community Center. You will find a place to serve and friends to bless you while serving.

So, until next time, be safe, live simply, love openly, forgive generously and remember this quote from tennis player and philanthropist Arthur Ashe who said, “Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can! Volunteer!” I bet we have a need for just what you have to give. Come see!
