Leah

Leah Marie Richter Griffin of Port O’Connor, TX went to be with the Lord on February 2, 2017 after a short battle with Leukemia. Leah was born May 29, 1943 in Houston, TX.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Marie Richter; son, Ronnie Richter; uncle, Tommy Dean and her mother-in-law, Jeanie Griffin.

She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Kenneth Griffin of Port O’Connor; grandson, Bryan Richter and wife Misty; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Redmond and Christopher Richter of Port O’Connor; Ken’s daughter, Ellen Farmer and husband, Tom and grandson, Ryan of Bay City, TX; her two brothers, Robert Richter and wife Penny of Georgia and Mark Richter and wife Autumn of Mt. Belvieu, TX; aunt, Dorothy Dean of Silsbee, TX and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Leah was very active in many organizations in our Community. She was in the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for many years and served as President in 2004/2005. She won the Woman of the Year in 1996 for the American Business Woman’s Association. She was President of the Port O’Connor Chamber of Commerce from 2005-2008. In 2010 she was President of the Coastal Bend Association of Realtors. Leah was President of the Lions Club from 2010 to 2012. She also was a member of Texas Associations of Realtors in 2012. Leah worked for Bert Witchers in Port Lavaca, Vantage Marine in Port O’Connor and has since spent 17 plus years working for Tigrett Real Estate. She was a very active member of the Baptist Church. She taught Vacation Bible School, Sunday School and also sang in the Church Choir. She loved to sing. Leah was a very loyal and caring person to her family and friends. She had many wonderful friends who enjoyed life like she did. We will forever miss Leah and her beautiful smile. She will be in our hearts forever.

A Celebration of Leah’s Life was held Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Port O’Connor with Pastor Donny Martin officiating. Interment followed in Port O’Connor Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Paul McGee, Bill Tigrett, Jeremy Dyes, Russell Hofer, Joe Castenada and Joe Linbarger.

Contributions may be made to the Port O’Connor Volunteer Fire Department.

Condolences – Delmer Scott

Port Lavaca – Delmer Scott, age 74, passed away January 31, 2017; after a 9 year fight with Mesothelioma. Delmer was born and raised in Port O’Connor, TX on November 13, 1942; he was the son of Alpha Lee Scott and Esther Thumann Scott.

After serving four years in the Coast Guard, stationed in Maine; he became a commercial fisherman. After retiring from Bobbies Bait in Port O’Connor he began his newest adventure as the owner of Powderhorn R.V. Park in Indianola, TX. Delmer is survived by his wife Bobbie Scott; sister’s Esther Lee Cauley of Jacksonville,TX and Linda (Leroy) Spencer of Sheridan, TX; three children, daughter Shelly Edeburn of Port O’Connor, Jimmy (Mary) Scott of Port O’Connor, David (Mandy) Scott of Shapleigh, ME. He is also survived by step daughter Terri (Terry) Maxwell of Burnet, TX and adopted son Mauricio (Veronica) Blanco of Port Lavaca, also a special granddaughter, Ginger Guptill of Indianola, which he raised like his own. Ten grandkids and four great grandkids, numerous nieces, nephews, and a slew of extended family and friends. Delmer was preceded in death by his parents, sister Bessie Gooden of Seadrift, TX; grandson Raymond Guptill, and step-son Rodney Loden.

A celebration of Delmer’s life was held on Saturday February 11, 2017 at the Powderhorn R.V. Park Rec-Hall at 601 Powderhorn Ln Indianola, TX. Memorial donations may be made to any cancer research of your choosing.

Condolences – Deborah Debbie Shotwell LaBouef

Deborah Debbie Shotwell LaBouef age 62 of Port O’Connor Texas passed away on Tuesday January 24, 2017.

Debbie was born on December 26th 1954 in Columbus, Ohio and was raised in Port O’Connor, Texas. She spent 30 years living in Lockport, Louisiana and moved back to Port O’Connor in 2005.

Debbie is survived by three daughters: Mandy Bryant, Karen Adams, Lacie Verdin; mother Janet Johnson; sister Leafy Johnson, and two brothers Charlie Johnson and Walter Shotwell. She also had nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Debbie was preceded in death by son Ebdon “T-Don” Verdin; husband Lawrence LeBoeuf; brother Billy Shotwell; stepfather Lewis Johnson; and father Bill Shotwell.

Debbie was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service for Debbie will be held at a later date at the Baptist Church in Port O’Connor Texas.

We are saddened to report the death of long-time Port O’Connor resident, Janet Johnson on February 6, 2017. Services are pending.

We hope to print more about this well-known and loved resident in the next issue of this publication.

May 31, 1973 – February 6, 2017

Frances Leona Pressley, 42, formerly of Port O’Connor, passed away February 5, 2017 in Madison, Wisconsin.

Frances is survived by her mother, Patricia Mayhall of Port O’Connor; and brothers, Jason Walton (Jessie) of Port O’Connor; Lee Walton of Arkansas; and Robbie Robinson (Mona) of Seguin, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at Fisherman’s Chapel at a later date.
