Awesome day for fishing with Bay Flats Lodge Guide Billy.

One heck of a day today with Chet Couvillon and his customers John Osgood and Charlie Osgood. We were wade fishing with lures and the guys had a blast catching full limits of trout and reds. The best bait for trout was a key lime Gambler flapping shad while the Reds were crushing super spook juniors. Thanks again Chet for the business! See you guys next year. The Intercoastal 4-H club of Port O’Connor has been busy starting off this 4-H year. At the first meeting held in September, we began getting planning some upcoming volunteer activities. We participated in the Texas General Land Office Adopt-A-Beach program on Saturday, September 26th by helping to collect trash and other debris from our beach.

On October 10th, for One-Day 4-H, the kids volunteered their time at the POC Cemetery. They hope to have another food drive to help those in need for the holidays.

October 16th will be a big night for our kids. They will be auctioning their animals at the Calhoun County Fair. We wish you all GOOD LUCK and CONGRATULATIONS for all the hard work and time you put into raising your animals. These kids have spent many hours, weeks and even months working with their turkeys, chickens, rabbits, and goat.

Please join us at the fair and show your support for an amazing group of kids!

The OLG Mariner 4H afterschool club recently installed their officers for the 2015-16 year. The installation ceremony was conducted by Rhonda Cummins, Calhoun County Extension Agent, Coastal & Marine Resources. At the ceremony Cummins gave the President a hammer to symbolize power and order; the Vice-president received blueprints to symbolize careful planning and organization; the Reporter was presented a power drill to make some noise as she promotes their club; and the Secretary was given a pencil and ruler to symbolize taking notes and marking carefully the progress and achievements of the club.

“As club officers you must strive to build a strong club that will last even after you leave the club, just as a carpenter builds a strong, sound house to last after he or she is gone,” Cummins told the new officers.
