The Community Center Facelift Project has finally gotten underway! On Thursday, August 24, we had nearly 100 people join us for our delicious Taco Thursday kickoff dinner. President of the Community Center Board, Jim Cooley, presented a program detailing the improvements planned for the first phase of the project and a proposal from contractor, Craig Lauger, with a projected estimated cost of $133,875.00.

Phase I will include the following improvements to the Pavilion. Each restroom will have two more stalls added, new flooring, paint, sinks, and countertops. The storage area will be enlarged, the kitchen will get a larger sink, countertops, flooring and lighting. Of course, included in this estimate is demolition, carpentry , plumbing, wiring and other unseen improvements. As is surely evident to us all, we have a big hill to climb just to reach the goal for Phase I !!!

On Friday, September 2, Russell Cain sponsored a free concert at Josie’s Mexican Restaurant featuring Larry Joe Taylor. All donations collected during the evening were given to the Facelift Project. Almost $1100.00 was collected. A big “ thank you” to Russell Cain for allowing our project to benefit from an evening of great music and fun in POC.

Our next fundraiser will be the Clay Shoot and raffle on October 8, 2022 behind the Community Center pavilion. Twenty four-man teams will be competing for prizes. There are still a few spots available. The entry fee for each four-man team is $800.00 and sponsorships are $500.00. For more information, contact Marched Strahm at maeghen@nickelrockllc.com or text her at 512-608-8388. Mark your calendar and come show support for our community by supporting this worthy project.

Please note that the Community Center is a 501c3 organization and has been since its inception nearly 25 years ago. All donations are tax deductible. Several POC organizations and countless full and part time POC residents are already part of the effort to insure that this complex will continue to be used for years to come.

Consider how important it has been to this town as a source of revenue, a gathering place for countless community functions, including Senior Citizen luncheons, Warrior’s Weekend, weddings, funerals, meetings and a show place for our town to take pride in. Make a decision today to support this project and help insure the complex will endure for years to come. Donations can be made at First National Bank POC; mailed to P.O. Box 812, POC, or you can join us at any of our fundraisers. Make this dream a reality.
