Tommy and Diana of Port O’Connor are pleased to announce the engagement of their son, Sean Hardegree, to Christina Stuart, daughter of Hadley and Connie Stuart of Hondo, TX.

The future groom is the grandson of the late Bob and Pat Vernard, and Janece Outlaw, Joyce Hardegree, and the late Thomas Hardegree.

A 2005 graduate of Calhoun High School and a 2010 graduate of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, he is employed with Braselton Homes of Corpus Christi.

The future bride is the granddaughter of the late Lee O and Margaret Davis of Hondo, and the late Harold and Marion Stuart of Brundage.

Christina is 2006 graduate of Hondo High School and a 2011 graduate of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi with a Bachelor’s degree in English. She is currently employed with InnerGeo, LLC out of Corpus Christi.

The couple plans to wed Saturday, November 5, 2011, at the Grande Hall at the Hoffman Ranch in Rio Medina, TX.

As students are well into the 2011-2012 school year, schools in the Crossroads area are encouraging students to give back to their community through blood donations. Thanks to their efforts, students now account for 21 percent of South Texas Blood & Tissue Center’s (STBTC) blood collection, a three percent increase from last year.

As an incentive to get students donating, schools with the largest number and highest percentage of blood donations for the school year will receive $1,000 gift certificates. In the past, students have elected to use these certificates to purchase school equipment, fund their events and for scholarships.

Local students are setting a great example for the community by donating blood and saving lives. The next drive is October 18, from 8:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at Calhoun ISD, 525 N. Commerce, Port Lavaca. Visit www.southtexasblood.org for more information.

Victoria Preservation, Inc. will host the 8th annual Cemetery Tour on Friday and Saturday nights, October 28th and 29th at Catholic Cemetery #1 located between Sabine and Red River Streets and between Glass and Moody Streets.

These tours have sold out the past three years!

Ten re-enactors will step into the shoes of actual historic characters and will tell their stories and of Victoria’s colorful past.

Well, this weather is really giving us the fits. The extreme heat has gone but now we are getting North wind one day and South the next. The tides have really come up and that’s good. We even got a nice rain (about 3 inches) this week so all in all I think it looks like things are looking up. The fishing has really improved over the last week or two.

The bays are producing some nice boxes of trout. South Pass, Shoalwater Bay and San Antonio Bay have been the center of the action. Topwaters have been good early and late and drifting with them has been good as well.

The back lakes are still good for reds. The high tides always help the lakes. During my last few trips in the back I have really seen a lot of ducks so I think the duck hunters should fair well.

The jetties have been full of reds. Live shrimp or cut sardines have been good for reds from 20 to 50 inches. There are lots of slot fish but about half the fish are oversized.
